Presbyopia, also termed as ‘lao hua yan’ is an expected consequence of aging process. In the young eye, the soft and flexible crystalline lens changes its shape to focus on near objects in a process called ‘accommodation’.
However, with age, the lens loses its elasticity therefore decreasing the ability of the eye to focus on near objects. This is a sign of the beginning of cataract. So if you start feeling that your ‘arms are too short’, you are not alone.
