What is an Epiretinal Membrane?

Macula pucker, macula scarring, cellophane maculopathy are all names for epiretinal membrane. Dr Cheryl Lee is a retinal surgeon who performs vitrectomy prior to peeling the membrane. Retinal surgeons also deal with floaters, age related macula degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions and retinal detachment. Outcome of the surgery depends on the length of time the membrane is there, the amount of distortion in the vision and the thickness of the membrane.
