Amblyopia or Lazy Eye

Patients with a lazy eye have less than perfect vision even after wearing contact lenses or glasses. This is because the signal from the eye to the brain is weaker of the lazy eye compared to the normal eye. Amblyopia affects children less than 7 years old. This is another reason why children need an eye check form 4 years old as treatment such as glasses and patching may not be effective after 7 years old as the brain’s plasticity is reduced. This means that after 7 years old, even if the child starts vision correction, the brain may no longer can be trained to receive the signals.

We will work with your child and give you tips to what to do during patching to increase the chance of success.
